Green Schools NYC

Here is a list we sent out at the end of the school year, encouraging parents to purchase eco-friendly school supplies and/or recycle and reuse when then could. This was something a handful of parents put together fairly quickly, and would appreciate other parents (admins, teachers, etc) to add to and/or subtract from.

Curious to see what the kids bring to school next month!

I might add that teachers, administrators and anyone else who makes up these supply lists specify that parents not buy/bring in antibacterial soap. It ends up in our waterways, where it has negative impacts on aquatic creatures and also ends up in sewage sludge, which is often land applied (from where it may leach into groundwater or surface water). The overuse of antibacterials may also be linked with rising antibiotic resistance. To learn more on this, see http://foodandwaterwatch.org/water/chemical-contaminants/triclosan-what-the-research-shows/?searchterm=antibacterial

about a year ago a friend gave me this link to order green school supplies as a school and the school gets a percentage of the profits. I don't know if it's still up and going but thought it could be a good thing.
